Based in the West Midlands, UK. Married to my gorgeous wife Jackie, we have 3 grown kids, all flown the nest and who have their owns lives, 2 grandkids and a cat called Millie.
I created Dale Thompson Golfing as a platform where truckers and golfers can come together to share their experiences, stories, or everything else going on in life. Through my website, dtg-dalethompsongolfing.com, I've built a vibrant community of like-minded people who love both trucking and golfing.
I joined the British Army back in 1989, served a total of 23 years and 288 days before I took redundancy. I completed 2 Operational Tours of Iraq and 1 Tour of NI. I spent 10 years in Germany, 2 years in Canada, 4 years in NI and the rest in the UK. I have been to some on the most beautiful places in the world and some of the most deprived and disgusting places. I was also part of the first ever RLC unit to guard the Queen. I finished my Army career at Nuneaton and settled in the West Midlands in 2012.
I have been a member of the EGTF (European Golf Teachers Federation) since 2011. I took the EGTF course for my resettlement after leaving the Armed Forces, with the focus on becoming a golf instructor. I have never given a paid lesson to ant student.....yet. I instruct more whilst playing the game and pass on my knowledge to other golfers. I'm proud to say that I've helped a very good friend reduce his handicap from 28 to 18. Still work to be done but the result shows I kind of know what I'm talking about.
I passed my HGV class 1 whilst serving with the Army, took my test in NI back in 1993. After leaving the Army I applied for a golf teaching job in Bedford, didn't get the position, so I fell back onto the one job I could do, Trucking. I started my career on the agency books, driving for the likes of Waitrose, Stapleford Tyers and UK Mail, eventually landing a permanent position with Norbet Dentressangle, who then became XPO, then changed again to GXO who then lost the contract to DHL, my latest employer.
I have played this wonderful game now for the past 25+ years, not always golf though, I played football from the day I could kick a ball but due to a serious knee I had to "choose another sport or end up in a wheel chair", those were the Doctors words. After months of rehabilitation I decided to take up golf, hindsight is a wonderful thing as I took to golf like a duck to water. I now see that golf is very much like life, obstacles are put in our way and we must navigate the safest route for longevity, golf is pretty much the same, only our end game is to send the ball home, the safest route possible!
